Easter Weekend Approaches :)

Day 8 up at 05:00 am to start the first brew once the coffee goodness was done and in the pack I got Sean at 06:00 am and headed out to our location ( Amandel Rylaan ). Arrived at our spot  06:15 am had our first cup of lavAzza coffee and officially started our day.

Sean wielding the rocket-pack and me with the sign we headed off into the cold and when I say cold I really do mean it. Winter is fast approaching and both Sean and I know that it will make for good business in fact we cant wait to be standing in the rain serving steaming coffee to passing motorists ...... hahaha

We sold a WHOPPING ! 5 cups today and every person that bought had something positive to say about the idea of coffee in traffic, one Lady said that LavAzza was her favourite brand of coffee another customer commented on the idea and wished us luck telling us to keep at it, we believe it's the universe talking to us in the way that only a universe can ;) or it could be that it's Easter weekend and everyone is just in a very good mood --- who knows. Apart from the comments we got we were also fortunate in receiving a few thumbs ups, greetings and big smiles from motorists stuck in the morning jam. Aaaaaaaa the life of a street vendor.

Day 8 was good and we are getting comfortable with staring at people in the morning making them smile and giving them something different for a change.  We can also see that most of the people  that drive past are "warming" up to the idea of coffee in traffic.

Unfortunately we wont be going out tomorrow because it is a public holiday so we are taking a chill until next week Thursday when most people will be going back to work. The traffic is already an hour less than it was last week due to the Coming Easter weekend, school holidays etc.So until our next post then.........................................

The Boy's Behind Morningbru.

Nic Red

Morningbru, A Small Business, A New Journey

Good morning and welcome to the official Morningbru blog. My name is Nicky and Morningbru was an idea I came up with four months ago. The  concept is simple and easy,  myself and a friend ( Sean Fourie ) wake up before the crack of dawn (05:00am) brew some filter coffee stick it in a backpack dispenser and run around the morning traffic supplying people with hot quality coffee at R10.00 a cup.

Initially We thought we would hit it big within the first few days but our high expectations were soon smashed when on our first morning we had only managed to sell five cups when we were both hoping to sell forty. This was seven days ago and we are still averaging around five to eight cups a day with the hope that in two weeks our numbers will double. This hasn't got us down though because we know that if we persist people will get to know us and the concept of coffee in traffic.
The Vehicle
We concentrate on one street at the moment called Amandal Rylaan, the traffic backs up here for about 1.5 kilometers every morning from 06:30 am to 08:30 am within this two  hour time frame we have traffic jammed and all to ourselves (Mohuhuhuhahahaaaa).

We patrol up and down the string of traffic, me holding the sign and Sean wielding the backpack filled with coffee goodness. On average we walk 10-15 kilometers a day and people are starting to get used to seeing us there in the morning and are actually greeting us before we greet them :) It's pretty cool. Our aim is to be there every morning so that  we can be relied on for coffee when people are running late or just couldn't get to making themselves a cup before leaving for work.

The Coffee ( LavAzza )
Choosing a coffee brand was tricky, we tested a few different blends before deciding on lavAzza (Italy's favorite coffee) The blend stood out for me personally and for a morning coffee it really does give you a kick in the butt first thing.

The Tools --- Urn, Coffee Queen Filter Machine, Flask
With every morning that passes we learn new valuable lessons and re-strategies the way we do things, for instance today we rocked out with a bigger, clearer and more visible sign and got a good response from our potential customers, it's small little details we learn everyday that will turn this into a bustling business. We are both very excited and driven to make this small business work for us, I mean it will catch on with time right ?
