5 Day's Behind Us

5 days done, only 85 more to go before we can realistically analyze the business for what it is. We had a total of 17 customers in the last five days of which 2 came back. Grateful for the return business but we need more and with time I am still confident that we will get it.

Entrepreneurs must learn to be like bloodhounds. Except instead of sniffing out escaped convicts, lost children, or perhaps drugs in the handbag of a little old lady from klerksdorp, they must learn how to sniff out the unmet needs of the people they wish to serve. To win new customers, ask the golden question: "What's the unmet want and how can we meet this unmet want before anybody else does?


Working on a new sign, we need a more visible one that simply states COFFEE. Seems like a lot of people still don't know what we are doing on the strip. The loyalty card concept will be introduced soon as well "buy nine get one free" hoping it will bring in a few more regulars :)

All in all Morningbru was successful this week and the feedback was positive on all fronts.

A Regular Approaches

Five cups Sold today, Four new customers and we officially have our first regular, oh and some random guy asked for directions, we got excited because he had four people with him in the car but alas they didn't need coffee, I bet they would of bought a map book though. Now we just need like 29 more regulars and we sorted.

Not Much else to say about today really, Kind of been running on auto pilot .... hoping to improve on tomorrows sales and see if our regular comes back ??

Acceptance On The Strip

Wow it was freezing this morning with hard rain coming down, luckily we were safe and dry inside the trailer. Five sales today and it was all new customers :) they were happy with the coffee and they like the concept.

First sale was made at 7:30 am -- nice and early, hoping to make one even earlier tomorrow morning. Watching the cars drive past I can see that people are interested and it wont be long before their curiosity will force them to come inspect our services.

The pancake guy surprised both Michelle and I when he came over and greeted us. He sparked up a conversation and welcomed us to the strip with a smile. It's a relief --- I mean the last thing I want is bad vibes between the strip vendors. We decided to have pancakes for breakfast and as we payed for them he gave back our money and asked for a cup of coffee instead ~ nothing like an old fashioned Barter session. He also referred someone to us for coffee-very nice of him. So now we just call him "oom" but I kinda like the ring of "pancake guy"

We put out this little display so that people can see we are offering a quality product and not some random instant crap coffee. LavAzza is still tasting great and really gives you a wake up in the morning -- love it.







Loyalty cards will be our next edition to Morningbru ~ buy 9 cups get your 10'TH cup FREE! We need to get on that as soon as possible I skeem it will improve our rep and make for good business. So much room for improvement but we have to focus on one thing at a time to get it all going. 

Cup Dispenser =D

The sign is another problem, I don't think it is visible enough, we need a light box or something to be bright and bold so that potential customers can see exactly what we are doing.

Check out the cup dispenser we scavenged from a hard ware store, It's actually a plumbing part that I converted into a cup dispenser ~~ hahaha, It works like a charm though...... no more cups rolling around everywhere.

Today was great and I'm glad Morningbru has been accepted to the strip. :)

First Morning With The Trailer On The Road

Started out with the Morningbru trailer this morning and made an incredible three sales :)....... It was a good experience and I know that with time this will work. We just need ten to twenty regular customers and we will be sorted. We are standing in a nice spot at the moment where cars can pull over for a cuppa in the morning, at ten rand a cup + a free muffin ~ Ala drive thru coffee ! :)....... going to be flogging the muffins for free!!!!! I mean really can you get a better deal ---- I think not.

Once we pick up with the sales the free muffin deal will be introduced on Mondays ( Monday muffin madness! ) and the rest of the week the price will be R15.00 for the muffin deal... loyalty cards will also become available at a later stage, buy nine get one cup free etc. It's exciting times here at Morningbru and the ideas are flowing nicely.

Michelle and I were sitting in the trailer this morning discussing the future of the concept and we both feel very positive about it all. We decided that selling coffee in this style is very similar to fishing in the sense that you keep trawling and wait for the catch. ~~~~ Here fishy fishy !

We had a bit of trouble with "THE PANCAKE GUY"  The pancake guy has been selling pancakes on the same strip for as long as I can remember and has become a bit of a legend in my town, he makes really really REALLY good pancakes ---  he gave us lip about being there and demanded I move my sign and he wanted to see my papers I even offered him a free cup of LavAzza  but he turned it down saying, and I quote" I make my own coffee". I was disappointed because he had always been so friendly before when I was  scoffing my face with his tasty pancakes, I had to be firm with him to show him that intimidation wont scare Morningbru away and he was treating me like a child so I had to show him that I was infact an adult ---- which paid off because he calmed down and became a little more friendly. Kill them with kindness!! my new motto !!!

Anyway all together it was an entertaining and educational day. We are ready to do it all over again tomorrow with the hope of doubling our sales :)

Busy Day Today

Two days before our next event and we are getting all our ducks in a row. The excitement mounts. Killarney is going to be insane. We were informed by a reliable source that there will be between 5000-8000 people attending on Saturday the 21'st of May o.O Morningbru will be the only stall selling coffee - eish it's going to be a spinner of a day.

Getting our quantities right is proving to be tricky! How many coffees to stock, how many muffins, hot chocolate, tea and, eerrrrrr, all that. It's all part of the challenge I rate, and we are amped as amped can be. I am definitely going to fill up the rocket pack and make my rounds around the racetrack offering steaming Hot Chocolate to anyone and everyone I can see. I hope this day is ready for us. If you guys are around the killarney area you should pull in for a coffee-muffin deal ;)

Events Events Events

We have an event coming up this weekend at Killarney Race track .... we will be selling LavAzza coffee, hot chocolate, tea, muffins and toasties. Hoping its going to be a success, If you going to the Drag Tow Show Street To Strip keep an eye out for Morningbru Coffee!

 Looks pretty epic and we are excited to be a part of this event. 

In other news we are busy sorting out a few odds and ends and will  be back on the morning beat selling Hot coffee as soon as possible. We have decided to lose the rocket pack for now and focus on getting people to pull over for a cup instead. By parking the trailer in a selected spot we should be able to pull it off. The rocket pack will only be used for events now and the trailer as our morning coffee pull over spot.

I have found a great place to park it and cars can now pull over for a cup instead of us doing the walking mission -- which seemed to scare people a little ;) Morningbru will be running a special deal---- Hot Coffee + A Muffin For R15.00 ................... C'mon that's a good deal !!!

Day Eleven - Smooth Ride

Day eleven and everything worked out just fine. Three cups sold : /  That's better than nothing and the coffee is tasting great again. Traffic was good and thick but didn't last nearly as long as we expected. Morningbru will keep pushing until we reach our goals.

We are hoping to see an improvement within the next twenty days or so. A big thanks to Michelle and Sean for standing behind this business, thanks guys couldn't do this without your help and dedication.

The Morningbru trailer is almost done, we will be taking it out to do an event this weekend ( the village ). Events are definitely of interest to us and having a branded trailer serving hot coffee should do well. We are also going to be providing hot chocolate, tea, muffins and roast veggie sandwiches at reasonable prices. So if you are pulling into the village this weekend you should come check us out, there will be a chill out section for you guys as well :)

We have officially reached 200 views and twelve followers on the blog ---- Yayness !! keep on checking up guys, who knows what Morningbru will evolve into --- exciting times !

Bad Start

Heavy days something went wrong with the coffee mix this morning and it was the last of our coffee :( so today we cant go out - Not good, not good at all.

We arent sure what exactly went wrong but the coffee has a bitter, like really bitter aftertaste. We are a bit bleak right now, usually by this time we are already on the road selling cups. I hope the punters can understand.

Well we live and we learn hey .... gonna get some more stock today and do it all over again tomorrow. :)

Back To Work

Hey people I trust you have had a wonderful and safe Easter weekend / week. It's back to work and school time so the traffic was thick this morning with a lot of unhappy faces ........ It was like a Monday times 10 on a Tuesday ?

We have been patiently anticipating this morning to see what the traffic would give us and were very happy to see cars backed up as far as the eye could see, unfortuanatley we didnt sell many cups this morning but managed to hold on till the end of the rush. Tomorrow will be better --- it is almost as if we have started all over again  : p

Sean couldn't join the team this morning because he has just become a Father ( congratulations buddy ) Silver Lee Eveleigh was born on May the 2nd at 05:55 am weighing in at 3.340 Kg. Congratulations Sean and Tammy   ---   wishing you guys all the best for the future !!!

The coffee still tastes as good as ever and our spirits are soaring high, all we need is for the people to climb on board and support this great service.Om nom nom nom nom
